Lieutenant Venetian Army

I have lost my reputation! I have lost the immortal part of myself, and what remains is bestial.

I am a career soldier but I have always been involved more in planning rather than leading men in battle. I am very pleased with my recent promotion to the role of Othello's lieutenant; gossip has it that I was up against some stiff competition. I know that I can help Othello deal with the demands of those political leaders who don't really understand how an army works. I also know that I can be of help to him in understanding the ways of Venetian society, which our general is not so familiar with. Now that I am in a more senior position, I am pleased that I made the decision to put my drinking and brawling days behind me. I know that there is nothing more distasteful to our General than a soldier who drinks and behaves like a thug. I must make sure I keep my liaisons with women a secret, because that is another thing of which he would definitely not approve.

Cassio, I love thee,/ But never more be officer of mine.
  3. Iago >>

You have lost no reputation at all, unless you repute yourself such a loser
  4. Desdemona >>

Be thou assured, good Cassio, I will do / All my abilities in thy behalf.
  5. Desdemona >>

Do not doubt, Cassio, / But I will have my lord and you again / As friendly as you were.
  6. Desdemona >>

Therefore be merry, Cassio, / They solicitor shall rather die / Than give they cause away.

What! Keep a week away? Seven days and nights? / Eight score eight hours? And lovers' absent hours / More tedious than the dial eight score times!

Military Service Record
Campaign: Cyprus Expedition
Rank: Lieutenant

Michael Cassio is a well-respected soldier and a loyal supporter of his general. His promotion to Lieutenant was a close decision over the talented Iago. The final decision was made as the army needs officers like Cassio with the right background in society. Although he has never led soldiers in battle, his background helps him to manage the complex political relationships with the court and civilian rulers that a military leader like Othello needs his lieutenant to undertake. However, there have been some concerns expressed about the effect that alcohol and partying can have on his self-control.
